Who is the music star of the future, that unpolished jewel? Maybe he or she is here in our local schools. What if they never have the opportunity to explore their creativity and refine their talent simply because they cannot afford a musical instrument? What if they never experience that truly great musical performance that speaks directly to the soul of the listener and transcends age, ethnicity and social background? It is the mission of Charlotte Concerts to be a pillar of the greater Charlotte arts education community, bringing hope and making dreams come true for thousands of children.

STUDENT TICKET OPPORTUNITIES

Complimentary and subsidized tickets to Charlotte Concerts performances are distributed to hundreds of middle, high school and college students each year. Educational material regarding the performance is provided with the tickets.

MUSIC, INSTRUMENTS & EQUIPMENTMaddyRitger_SouthwestMiddle2

Charlotte Concerts is committed to the education of future instrumentalists and vocalists in our area schools. We annually supply needed new instruments, music equipment and sheet music to local school districts.

CHARLOTTE-MECKLENBURG SCHOOLS HONOR GROUPS

In the fall of each year, music teachers in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools begin their selection of talented students to be included in the annual Honor Groups. Repertory Middle School String Orchestra, Middle School Honors Orchestra, Middle School Honors Band, Middle School Honors Chorus and High School Honors Orchestra all meet on various weekends in the spring to rehearse and perform a concert. Charlotte Concerts underwrites the costs of the events which include guest conductor honorariums and expenses, music, programs, and memento t-shirts for students.

HONORED MUSIC STUDENTS

From the many music and dance students nominated by area teachers, a student is selected and then honored at each of our concerts. The student’s significant accomplishments and contributions to the arts community are recognized in the playbill. The honored student, their family and music teacher meet the artist at the conclusion of the concert.

STUDENT PERFORMANCES

In keeping with our goal of nurturing young artists, Charlotte Concerts sponsors student performances at appropriate events. These may be a pre-concert mini-event, annual gala, Crown Society Dinner, or a Board of Directors meeting.

ARTIST EDUCATION OUTREACH

Charlotte Concerts sponsors unique and inspirational extracurricular collaborations with visiting artists. These include visitations by artists to school sites allowing students to get up-close-and-personal with the artists, free Master Classes and open-to-the-public Informance sessions. Often, open rehearsals by the performing artist will be made available to students and their teachers.

MUSIC SCHOLARS FUND

Private music lessons for talented and dedicated underserved students are made available through a fund established by Charlotte Concerts. Nominated students are chosen to participate through an application, interview and audition process. Lessons are for one school year with a recognized music specialist on the chosen instrument or voice. Students re-audition each year to continue their private study through high school graduation.
