Showcasing the talents of music students in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is an opportunity to focus on the talents, dedication, and commitment of young people who participate in choral and instrumental ensembles.

A Musical Showcase Competition Celebrating Excellence is a first of its kind event for the greater Charlotte community. In 2017, the Inaugural A Musical Showcase was made possible by a challenge grant from The Leon Levine Foundation and honored Dale Polsky, who was the first Vice President of Education for Charlotte Concerts. Dale initiated music education initiatives that formed the foundation of Charlotte Concerts’ all-encompassing music education programs.
The 2018 A Musical Showcase was held April 23, 2018 and honored Jim Babb, another advocate for Charlotte music community.
The planning for the 3rd Annual A Musical Showcase, which will take place Monday, April 8, 2018, at Blumenthal Performing Arts, is well underway. We will be sending information to all Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools once the fall semester begins. Be on the lookout for the application and get ready to enter your ensemble for the opportunity of a lifetime!

All of the All-Stars in Charlotte – Mecklenburg Schools don’t play on the fields, courts or even in the pools.  A whole host of CMS’ most talented and brightest students perform on a stage. These musically talented students performed on, perhaps, the biggest stage of their life so far, and they performed beautifully last March at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center! The occasion, “A Musical Showcase,” was a smash hit and will become an annual event showcasing the brightest, most talented and most diverse group of young people that our community has to offer. This year’s inaugural event drew an enthusiastic and appreciative audience celebrating a great variety of performances featuring nearly 600 student/musicians and singers from 15 of our schools from all over the county and representing talent from K8 thru high school.  Next year’s performance promises to be even big bigger and better.

A MUSICAL SHOWCASE held earlier this year at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center was one of the most entertaining and inspirational events I’ve attended this year. The emcee was Jordan Gross, former All-Pro Tackle for the Carolina Panthers. The judges included: Mary Deissler, President and CEO of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra; Tom Gabbard, President and CEO of the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center; Will Young, Director of Music Ministries at First Presbyterian and; Anthony Hamilton, Emmy nominated R&B singer and songwriter. But the stars were the students who entertained us and the teachers and parents who encouraged and guided them. It was a night to be remembered and one that I won’t soon forget.”
